War

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Ephesians 6:12

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

1 Peter 5:8-9

It was Veteran’s Day in the US on Sunday. As we remember those who have served our country, I’ve been thinking of another war that the Bible talks about that’s been going on for a long time. It is being fought all around us. This war isn’t fought using bullets or missiles. It isn’t about controlling lands or resources. It is a spiritual war, being fought over souls. That jerk, Satan, and his demons are out to deceive, fighting against our Lord and his angels. Our enemy is not the other political party, the jerk at work, or the bully on the playground. Rather, it is the dark powers that patrol this world. There is good news, though: we have a God who is stronger and bigger than anything the devil can throw at us!

If you feel under attack, remember the devil tends to attack those he feels threatened by, wanting to stop them. Stand firm because you must be doing something he doesn’t like! And if you don’t feel the devil attacks you, consider if he should have any reason to stop you. Should something in your life change?

Stand firm under temptations and trials, my friends! It may cost you your life, but it will save your soul.

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Christ.
For the accuser of our brothers,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
    has been hurled down.
  They overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb
    and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
    as to shrink from death.
  Therefore rejoice, you heavens
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
  He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.”
