Palm Sunday Procession

The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,
“Hosanna!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Blessed is the king of Israel!”
Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:
 “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;
    see, your king is coming,
    seated on a donkey’s colt.”

John 12:12-15

Today is Palm Sunday. I hiked with my fellow students to walk with the procession down the Mount of Olives into the Old City, commemorating Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem 2000 years ago. Thousands participated. I was gone almost 5 hours. I’m glad I was able to be apart of this. I’ll remember this every Palm Sunday for the rest of my life. Stay tuned for more updates from Holy Week in Jerusalem!

Inside the church of Bethphage, where Jesus got the donkey he rode. The procession started just outside.
The procession has begun! We first have to climb up to the top (we’re on the eastern slope of the hill).
Looking south. Great view today! Herodium is visible on the horizon in the center.
We’re finally going down the west side! Just a few people around!
Approaching Jerusalem
Approaching Lions Gate. The end was a little ways inside by St. Anne’s Church.
With fronds like these…
