This is what the Lord Almighty says: “I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west. I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.”
Zechariah 8:7-8
It’s been an eventful time to be in Jerusalem. Monday, May 14 was the 70th anniversary of Israel on the Gregorian calendar and marked the moving of the US embassy to the city. (By moving, that means changing the sign on what was the consulate) While it wasn’t obvious in Jerusalem, there were protests in Gaza, which sadly resulted in about 60 people being killed there over the last couple of days amidst Israel defending the border.
May 15 is traditionally marked as “Nakba Day” by Palestinians (Nakba is Arabic for catastrophe, referring to flight and expulsion of Arabs when Israel became a state). The PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization) declared Tuesday to be a day of a general strike, meaning most of the shops owned by Arabs in the Old City were closed. That made it easier to get around the city. Beyond losing business and making a statement, I’m not sure what it accomplished.
