Life on the Nile

Arriving back in Aswan, we were transferred to our next accommodations aboard a Nile cruise boat. Don’t imagine the large vessels on the ocean. We’re talking about 100 people. This would be our home base for the next three nights. That night while we were fast asleep the boat started north.

All aboard!

When I awoke the next morning, we were in a new location! We hopped off just as the sun peaked over the horizon to walk to the nearby site of Kom Ombo. Split down the center, it’s a double temple, dedicated to two Egyptian deities: Sobek the crocodile god and Horus the falcon god. Like Philae, it was built during the Greek period. As we left, we swung through the small museum next to the site with mummified crocodiles. Crikey!

After our short visit, we hurried back on board so we wouldn’t be left behind and have to swim to catch up. After a nice breakfast, it was time to relax. I made my way to the roof of the ship. As we slowly sailed north, we witnessed a slowly shifting panoramic view of the Nile. Boats, wildlife, towns, and ruins came and receded from view. I sat in the shade with a good book, making sure to look up often enough to not miss anything.
