We have finished the little book of Habakkuk! If you have read through this blog, I hope you have tasted some of its richness. In the introduction, we noted Habakkuk’s name comes from the Hebrew word meaning to embrace. What can we embrace from his little book?
Some Takeaways
Habakkuk was not afraid to ask God hard questions. As a result of his questioning, God answered him! Are we willing to ask God anything? How often do we miss out because we did not ask?
Do we cry out to God about the injustice and suffering in this world? How do we seek to be a solution to the struggles seen around us?
What does it mean to live by faith? How do we have unswerving faith in God in the midst of turmoil and tragedy? How do we not lose our faith during times of abundance when it’s easy to trust in ourselves?
God declares five woes over the invaders, denouncing their violence and injustice and their trust in idols. Are we willing to speak truth about the lies swirling around our culture?
After hearing from the Lord, how does Habakkuk respond? He worships the Lord with a song! He acknowledges the Lord as the ruler of the earth and accepts his judgment. Are we able to praise God in the midst of suffering? Are we willing to accept his decrees?
To Ponder…
I’ll leave you with a quote from one commentary, which I believe sums the book up well:
Habakkuk teaches us to face our doubts and questions honestly, take them humbly to the Lord, wait for His Word to teach us, and then worship Him no matter how we feel or what we see.

God doesn’t always change the circumstances, but He can change us to meet the circumstances. That’s what it means to live by faith
