He’s a Wonderful God

I will remember the deeds of the LORD;yes, I will remember your wonders of old.I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God?You are the God who works wonders;you have made known your might among the peoples. You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah Psalm 77:11-15 When we think of the Passover, one of the big pieces that usually comes to mind is the ten plagues God brought upon Egypt. While we describe them as plagues, God describes them differently when he […]

The Road to Resurrection

That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. Luke 24:13-15 Friday, all their hopes and dreams had been shattered. Life had changed in a moment as they saw their Rabbi and Lord die on a Roman cross. Reaching For Redemption Imagine that first Easter morning, two days later. Rumors are circulating. Jesus is dead – or is he alive? The tomb […]

Remembering the Resurrection

I want to take a week off from Habakkuk to reflect on today, Easter. I’ve been remembering my time celebrating it in Jerusalem three years ago. Days of Easter Past After a sunrise service on the Mount of Olives, we walked back to the city. Making our way down the hill, we wandered past the traditional location of the Garden of Gethsemane and decided to duck in for a few minutes. I’d been there many times before, but that day brought a different feeling to the place. Typically people visit to remember Jesus fervently praying that night before his arrest, […]

Passover: Stay Inside

Passover began Wednesday night. Easter is coming on Sunday. This is traditionally a time for people to gather together and celebrate. That is not the case this year as we are told to stay home and practice “social distancing” to avoid spreading COVID-19. While this is disappointing, the marvels of modern technology allow us to bridge the gap. My brother and I hosted a virtual Seder to celebrate Passover with a few others joining us online. It’s a time to remember what God has done in the past with the hope of what he will do in the future. It […]

Foolish?

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18 Today remembers Jesus’ resurrection. The whole idea of someone rising from the dead sounds like an April Fool’s joke. Who could believe in such a thing? Well, the early disciples of Jesus claimed they saw him afterward and died proclaiming it. No one in his right mind suffers or dies for a lie. I can almost imagine Jesus telling the world, “You thought I was dead for good? April Fool’s! I’m […]

The Empty Tomb

But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if […]

Death Nullified

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: `He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” Matthew 28:5-7 Today around the world, the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Messiah, is being remembered. The Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem marks […]

Firstfruits

But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 1 Corinthians 15:20-23 Happy Resurrection Sunday! Today Christians around the world are remembering and celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Messiah! Today is also an important day on the Jewish […]
