The Lord said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites: ‘On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. Do no regular work, but present a food offering to the Lord.’” ~ Leviticus 23:23-25 Shanah Tova! Happy New Year (on the Jewish calendar)! The year 5779 has begun at sundown on Sept 9. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost four months since I departed from Israel (although my heart remains there). I picked my life back up, went back to work, and resumed my usual […]

Something New
The LORD said to Moses on Mount Sinai, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land I am going to give you, the land itself must observe a sabbath to the LORD. For six years sow your fields, and for six years prune your vineyards and gather their crops. But in the seventh year the land is to have a sabbath of rest, a sabbath to the LORD. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards.’” Leviticus 25:1-4 Shana Tova! Happy New Year! It’s Rosh Hoshanah again. Another Jewish new year has arrived. The […]
Another New Year
We’ve come to another Rosh Hashanah, the civil new year on the Jewish calendar. The hot summer months are transitioning into cooler fall months, all part of the normal annual cycle. The fall festivals have begun. Imagine the calendar like a slinky. We keep going round and round the annual calendar, coming back to where we were a year ago. However, this year is not last year. Nor is is next year. Each day is unique. A slinky is made of circles, but each loop moves a little. We remember what happened on a given day, yet we press on […]
Book Binding
He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels. Revelation 3:5 Shanah Tova! Happy New Year! We just finished Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. The fall festivals are beginning. A common phrase for this time of year is “May your name be inscribed in the book [of life] for the next year.” The Bible talks about books with people’s names written in them. When Moses pleaded with the Lord to take away Israel’s sin with […]
The End is Near!
First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” … But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to […]
Holiday Weekend
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Colossians 2:16-17 Monday was Memorial Day, a day in the US where we remember those who have fought in our wars and gone before us. Sunday I mentioned it was Pentecost. That made for a full holiday weekend, but also an enjoyable one. Perhaps you’ve read on my blog about the various festivals mentioned […]
Happy New Year!
The LORD said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites: ‘On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. Do no regular work, but present an offering made to the LORD by fire.’” Leviticus 23:23-25 Shana Tova! Happy New Year! Today is Rosh Hashanah – the head of the Jewish year, marking the beginning of the year 5772. One of the traditions that became attached to this day was the eating of apples with honey, wishing for a sweet year. Each Wednesday evening we have cookie night, […]
